Hyden Your Manly Bits

I understand some guys like to show off their man-stems. Maybe it makes them feel sexy, virile, free. Good for you if you like to show off your hairy stilts. But my friend summed up my own opinion of these super short shorts for men, the Hyden Yoo Black Agassi Shorts: "Haha. Agassi must mean "one ball out" in Italian or something." Let em all hang out guys. Maybe this is your bra burning statement.

Mangina Attack

It doesn't matter what season it is. The label name (in this case Yiga Azrouel) doesn't matter. The cool cuff detail is irrelevant. The quirky pocket doesn't matter. This pant has a khaki vagina. Priced at $360 USD, its the cheapest sex-change for your buck. If you can live with a khaki vagina.

WTF: Raf Simons RTW Fall Winter 2009 2010

Okay, its settled. When the shows rap up in Paris, I will dedicate several posts to this feeling of disappointment and vicarious embarrassment. Disappointment is nothing new to fashion followers, students, designers, sellers, or buyers. We funnel it into catty repartee. Disappointment pays bills for critics ( though not the blogging sort usually). However, when someone like Raf Simons shows you an unremarkable suit paired with a hideous sneaker something is fucked up. There is no amount of cynicism that can compete with the jarring images of these clothes. You feel the pinch.

I was going to share an elaborate illustration involving a suffocated kitten, then I thought perhaps a more apt description would point towards the haphazardness of the collection, but I think I'll save my energy and vitriol.

The sleeves are the only thing that carries visual impact and for the most part they didn't work as tacked on features. Much more salient was the two tone concept. Even in neon it looked clean and smart in a conventional slim sleeve but it was overpowering in the voluminous versions.

No comparison between this and that.

Fashion Fail: The Oven Mit Pant

Pajama wear has been all over menswear collections for the past year but the slept on look has made its debut in Dolce & Gabbana's quilted pant, a mixture of oven mitten and mattress. It's so cozy looking!

Next get ready to sex it up as a 16th century male gigolo:

Now I'd like to take a glance back, if you don't mind, to a collection that really grew on me: this look by Prada from several seasons ago. The leggings. The fuzzy sweater. What's not to love?

What's that you say? Its actually a look from Marni's latest fall collection? Jesus Christ monkeyballs, what's Marni doing with Prada clothes in their collection? Is that legal?

My Country 'Tis Of Thee

My suspicions are growing stronger and stronger. The stars and stripes just don't look cool. Even on a weiner dog it's obnoxious. It should be cute. But its just annoying. I feel bad for the little weiner.

Thanks to A Continuous Lean for uncovering this beast on the twitter. I have to agree the offspring of Duckie Brown x Florsheim is one ugly ass baby. And some person with lots of money and no taste will give them a good home. The worst thing about these is that they were originally made to commemorate the end of WWII. This was their idea of celebration. A slight stain on the history of Americana, perhaps.

If someone can show me an example of the Yankee banner looking stylish on anything I'd be stoked to be proven wrong.

P.S. speaking of Twitter, don't be shy and follow my twits. I don't bite. At least not on the first date.

Fashion Fail: Wolverine McQueen

SS09 with Alexander McQueen was a little awkward. There was a progression of hourglass shapes culiminating with that monstrosity you see on the bottom right above. Still, I defended Alex against the naysayers. I thought some of the hourglass pieces could be worn. I was mistaken. The graphic image in simply unflattering on most likely a wide range of body types and something else occured to me while staring probably too hard at the computer screen:

Oh, Jacko...

You might be thinking that the Uggs slippers are a mistake or that the turquoise of the tunic is grotesque. But you're just wrong. You're looking inside the box man. And the Zorro mask? The superhero look is in. Sort of. You don't get it because you're boring and you're jealous of the style god Michael Jackson is becoming.

J*@&!d In My Pants

I have to say that this is the best SNL season in a long time. The Lonely Island boys (Andy Samberg, Jorma Taccone, and Akiva Schaffer) have a lot to do with the revived funny on NBC.This skit was a perfect send up to the electro scene of Justice, Modular, and DFA. If you ignore the ridiculous lyrics you could imagine it being a popular track at Studio B. Samberg and Akiva's outfits are Topman and Urban Outfitters in overdrive.

The song will be on Lonely Island comedians new album Incredibad. Look for Incredibad in stores February 2009.

Oh Kanye...

Mr. West is seen above in a pullover from his new line Pastelle. So far I am not impressed, I feel the same way about the piece seen above as I do those revealed in Vman a couple of months ago, and as I do about his new album. Obvious design choices are deployed in obvious ways. The 80s style colorblocking has been done better. Conspicuous logos are another demonstration of tastes lacking of sophistication.

808's and Heartbreak, West's new album, breaks from his tradition of creating catchy hip hop singles by producing what is essentially a hip hop infused pop album owes more to Peter Gabriel than perhaps any hip hop album ever. For me the stand out track is Say What You Will where this moody new wave sound comes together best. Lyrically, the album delves into emotional depths that don't suit his limited vocabulary and at times the narratives become unintentionally hilarious. When comparing his life to that of a family man he juxtaposes photos of a man's children to the rapper's cribs and his many cars. Boo-hoo. This feeling of emptiness is quickly replaced by more expected reveling in riches on other tracks, don't worry. The biggest element to weigh down the album is the nonstop autotuner usage which reminds us of the less interesting Genesis member, Phil Collins.

Kanye calls himself "the voice of our generation". Frankly, I'm not even worried about that being true. It rings as hollow as any other self-promotional statement rappers throw out casually.

The Silver Lining of the Recession

See you in hell Crocs.

Crocs Inc (CROX.O: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz) posted a deep quarterly loss on Wednesday as sales of its colorful plastic shoes plunged and it racked up high restructuring costs, sending its shares down 37 percent in extended trade.

...In addition to crumbling U.S. consumer spending, news that Crocs can get caught in escalators and cause injuries has also hurt the company, together with the plethora of knock-off shoes in the marketplace, and a recent European Union ruling that a Crocs patent is invalid.
