Goodbye Muxtape. Hello 8tracks.

Remember Muxtape? The short-lived site that allowed you to create you're own cassette tape ready playlist? It's supposed to be coming back in a short while with a new business model but in the meantime there's a new site which just came out a little bit ago that lets you do something rather similar. Its called 8tracks.

After creating a profile you upload your favorites (New Kids On The Block, Smashmouth, Boyzone, Enya etc) and arrange them into something listenable (promise not to judge you).

Here's something I slaved over a little while ago.

How long will this site last? Only baby Jesus knows.

***Edit***

Someone from 8tracks just left a comment:

Hi Ian,

Many thanks for the coverage!

We're licensed (unlike Muxtape and Playlist.com) under the US compulsory license for webcasting (the thing that governs internet radio, and under which which Pandora, Live365, Last.fm etc operate).

Scoop on the legal stuff here: http://8tracks.com/legal.

Thanks bro.

Even legal sites get the shut down. There is no free music - music is not free!

FREE. MUSIC.

Thom,

That's true as well, but the RIAA is currently backpedaling on their strategy. DRM-free music is in vogue too.
